Trying to find old racing Game

When I was a kid I used to play a top view racing game where you buy a car and upgrades (weapons and engine etc.) and you raced around a 2d top view track taking damage if you hit wall or got shot. I can not remember what the name of the game was and not sure which system it was on. I believe it was for snes, but it could have been on sega or nes, it has been a really long time. The only other thing I can remember is that the best car in the game I believe was a lambo. If someone knows what game I'm talking about please let me know.

That sounds a heck of a lot like an Amiga game (maybe it was also on other platforms) called Supercars. One of the principal programmers was Sean 'Sout' southern, who also worked on Lotus Turbo Challenge I and II.
