OK, I'm a long time RPG fan - what I'm looking for are fully-translated versions of Japanese RPG's that never came out in America, like Star Ocean. A lot of times I find "translated" roms that either aren't translated or are only partially translated. Anyone know a good place for any?
Second, forgive my noobiness to ROMS and emulators, but I've downloaded a lot of the "translated" games that didn't seem to be working right; parts of the screen completely colored out, invisible options at the start screen, etc. I've always figured it was a messed up ROM, but i'm curious: can I change an option on my computer to make these games work?

A guy asks a question. Yeesh. >_>
Yeah, un-AMerican, as in not released in America, not already played by the casual American fan, because for some reason or another the people who released the games thought Americans wouldn't like it until it became "vintage"(i.e. Final Fantasy 2, 3, and 5). In particular I'm interested in checking out the whole Star Ocean Series because I haven't played any of them yet, but I would like to start from the first game in the series - hence I'm looking for a translated version of that.
I hope that cleared it up a bit. Does anyone have a more meaningful response to my question? ^^
Post Edit:
And btw, adding to my question about changing options on the computer to make roms work better - I've already tried playing with removing and replacing various layers (using the number keys), and that didn't help, so I figure it's just the rom.
