Hey I am looking for some good ‘relatively unknown’ RPG games for SNES. I played all the popular ones FF4-6 Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire etc. Recently, I was downloading random ROMs to see what they were and came across “Tales of Phantasia”. It appears to be a Japan only release, I been playing it for a few hours now and am surprised at how good it is, I rate it right up there with FF series.

Please post here any recommendations you may have, thanks.

The Ys series is very good. 3-5 are on the Snes. 4 & 5 were only released in Japan, but they can be found translated to full English.

As with most game series there is an oddball or "black sheep" in the crowd, no different with Ys. In this case the odball would be Ys III: Wanderers from Ys. All the other games are isometric view (top down, see: Zelda), this one is side scrolling. Don't let that bring back less than great memories of Zelda 2: Adventure of Link, as I can assure you it's much better than that.

Vay for Sega CD is another good one, as well as either of the Lunar games (also for Sega CD).

Neutopia I & II are excellent Zelda clones (Turbo Grafx-16). Lagoon (Snes) is another of my personal favorites.

Please note that Vay and Lunar are the only "traditional" RPG's I named. The rest are Action RPG's.

hi,

i'm also on the hunt for some snes rpg's.. i've also played ff5-6 etc and chrono-trigger (not yet finished)

are there any snes rpg's with these types of features?
- item creation?
- non linear plot/storyline progression
- randomized features
- non 'fantasy land' settings (ie: post apoc/futuristic)

are there any snes games similar to the game 'x-com apocalypse' ??

are there any snes games that have rpg aspects but have the player using giant mechs or similar? (battletech/robotech type games)
